It is normal to expect some pelvic discomfort following a hysteroscopy. For pain control you may use paracetamol (Panadol) and/or anti-inflammatories (e.g. Ibuprofen)

You should be able to return to work the following day, but may require more time off work depending on the procedure performed.

You may continue to bleed lightly for seven to ten days after the procedure. You should use pads rather than tampons during this time

You should not drive for 24 hours following a general anaesthetic

Avoid intercourse, taking a bath, and swimming for two weeks.

Complications are very infrequent. However, if you experience any of the following after surgery;

• A fever > 38.5°C or are feeling unwell
• Offensive vaginal discharge or heavy bleeding
• Nausea and vomiting which does not settle
• Unable to empty your bladder or bowel
• Severe pain.
